Welkom — welcome to the website of the Seamen’s Centre Amsterdam.

Under the warm leadership of our management and a team of enthusiastic staff and volunteers, the Seamen’s Centre offers relaxation and companionship to seafarers at our Zeemanshuis on the Radarweg, right in the heart of Amsterdam’s port area.

Because we’re centrally located in the port, we can reach almost any ship quickly — and best of all, our pick-up and drop-off service is completely free. One call, one WhatsApp message, and our van is on its way to your terminal.

A short history

For the welfare of seafarers, the “Stichting Zeemanswelvaren Amsterdam” was founded in 1951, growing out of earlier seamen’s houses with lodging accommodation dating all the way back to 1858. What began as simple, honest shelter for sailors between voyages has grown into today’s Seamen’s Centre — renovated, sustainable, and ready for the future, while holding on to what matters most: being a true home away from home.
